Sustainability Plan Workshop Held for Morong Watershed
November 2017
In partnership with longtime partner Republic Cement Services Inc., WWF-Philippines held a land use harmonization workshop at the Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo City with various sectors in preparation for a Morong Watershed sustainability plan as part of WWF-Philippines’ Catchments and Communities Project. Through this workshop, watershed stakeholders were able to convene and lay out the groundwork for the Morong Watershed project that directly impacts the neighboring towns of Antipolo, Teresa, and Morong.
Antipolo City Vice Mayor Josefina Gatlabayan, who was present during the event, shared in her message to the participants, “I’m very thankful to the WWF for having this kind of workshop wherein all the respective representatives are not only from Antipolo and Teresa but also from other local government units.” And hopefully, we can have this course of action plan that will lead us to a project that will be sustained by our sponsor as well as informing our communities regarding on how we can be able to preserve the very fresh environment that they are having today.”
The workshop also sought to address present and future problems regarding the flooding, decreasing water supplies, water pollution, and incompatible land uses in the Morong sub-watershed that affect the three Local Government Units (LGU) of Rizal - Antipolo, Morong and Teresa. Participants collaborated on a common plan of action to solve the said issues. It is envisioned that the developed plan will be integrated into the respective LGUs’ Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).
