In celebration of Pride Month this June, WWF-Philippines, in partnership with Runrio Inc., is holding Pride for the Planet, a virtual run, walk, move, and ride event for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. The goal of this event is to raise funds to support the conservation efforts of WWF-Philippines.

Recognizing the pivotal role of the LGBTQIA+ community in championing equal access to opportunities for everyone, Pride for the Planet highlights their equally important role in advocating for environmental conservation. It serves as a call for the safeguarding of the planet and equality for every person who lives on it.

“With all that’s happening not just in our country but the entire world, all-embracing solidarity is what we need right now. Pride for the Planet is a small but significant step that we can all take as we advocate for both inclusivity, and environmental conservation,” WWF-Philippines Ambassador Pia Wurtzbach said.

“Each sector has diverse experiences and perspectives that can put forward innovative designs in restoring what was lost from nature and its protection. This is why we should all work together, be all-in for the sake of the country and planet we live in,” Wurtzbach added.

Registration for the self-paced virtual event is from May 14 to June 18. Registrants who will finish the 10KM, 20KM, 40KM, or 60KM distance on or before June 30 will receive an e-certificate and a commemorative finishers’ kit. Successful finishers also get a chance to win special prizes from raffle partners including The Gay Agenda, Milkwear, Purveyr, NEO, Jump Manila, Hull and Stern, Avant Athletica, and Knog.

The LGBTQIA+ community has been proactive in leading conservation efforts with various environmental organizations worldwide. Movements for nature and biodiversity create a culture of inclusivity, with everyone committing to their share of responsibility in taking care of the planet.

“Beyond this event, we should make this month a time to realize how everyone, regardless of one’s gender, age, and race, can contribute to making a safe and sustainable world that will continue to house the next generation,” said WWF-Philippines Individual Donor Program Manager Stephy Navarrete.

“Nature is colorful and full of diversity, just like us people. We should embrace and celebrate multiformity, both in nature and in ourselves,” Navarrete expressed.

Pride for the Planet is made possible by major partner, Booth and Partners, event partner, Canva Philippines, and official media partners, WheninManila.Com and Globaltronics. For more information, follow WWF-Philippines on social media or log on to bit.ly/PrideforthePlanet2022.
