Jill Barreiro and Nicole Olivar are grade 10 students whose vision for a healthier environment led to the creation of this fundraiser event. As childhood best friends, growing up with each other through all the ups and downs, they knew that their synergy would work well in putting up a meaningful event - one that could inspire others to take a stand for the future of our one shared home. As part of the youth, they know that it is their responsibility to take care of the world we inherited and ensure its health for all the future generations to come. Although they’re just a duo, the help and support of various performers, family members, friends, and other concerned individuals made it possible for them to hold this successful event. They are hoping that Mellifluous will serve as a spark so that more people can be inspired to do their part to #ChangeTheEnding for the environment.

Mellifluous is an open mic event, incorporating both students’ passion for music and love for the environment in one show. With the creation of this fundraiser, their vision to assist in building a future where humans and nature simultaneously thrive was put into motion, providing local Filipino musicians a platform for their voices and talents. 

The artists tapped their audience to raise awareness among the public of various environmental issues, and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines’ efforts to alleviate these. The initial plan to donate 100% of the profits from the tickets sold for the event to the organization was changed, to include the creation of an additional donation page online, where environmentalists could donate any amount of money towards their cause. 

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic and subsequent countrywide lockdown, the event was cancelled to ensure everyone’s safety. But from the ticket sales alone, the fundraisers were still able to exceed their goal of raising 21,000 PHP with the support of numerous donors online. Despite unprecedented circumstances, the ultimate goal of the two fundraisers and their event--to enhance the community’s awareness and involvement in the alleviation and improvement of serious environmental issues--was reached.
