The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines and Golden ABC affirmed their partnership for the reforestation of Ipo Watershed with a commemorative tree planting event held last Saturday, the 21st of October, 2019.

To commemorate their 35th anniversary, retail giant Golden ABC has committed to rehabilitating 35 hectares of Ipo Watershed. The watershed, located in Norzagaray, Bulacan, is a rainforest biome whose banks supply 98% of Metro Manila’s water supply. Deforestation leads to erosion and the contamination of the water supply, which is why conservation efforts are crucial.

“Our CEO’s vision, Mr. Bernie Yu, has always been to give back to society. It’s not just about Golden ABC – it’s about partnering with society,” said Golden ABC Vice President for Marketing Jeff Bascon. 17,500 seedlings are to be planted under the partnership between WWF-Philippines and Golden ABC.

“It’s good that Golden ABC and WWF-Philippines have given us this platform. A lot of people are willing to help, it’s just that they don’t know how to. This is a perfect way for us to give back to nature,” added Bascon.

“We always welcome partnerships like this. No one can live without water, so it’s good to see all sorts of people coming together to ensure that millions of Filipinos get what they need,” added WWF-Philippines Forests for Water Project Manager Paolo Pagaduan at the start of the event. WWF-Philippines has been working its partners on the conservation of Ipo Watershed since 2016.

Golden ABC is the latest in a number of partnerships with WWF-Philippines dedicated to the protection of Ipo Watershed. Through these partnerships, the organization hopes to secure water for millions of Filipinos for many years to come.

Over the next three years, WWF-Philippines will be working with Golden ABC to ensure that the seedlings that were planted survive until maturity.

Together, let's #ChangeTheEnding!
