Race to Save the Tamaraws

Fitness enthusiasts are in for an interesting challenge as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines and Takbo.ph launch At Home for A Home: Run for Biodiversity Virtual Run and Ride Series this October, in celebration of the World Animal Day and the National Tamaraw Month.

Founded in 2012, Takbo.ph is one of the biggest names in the sports field promoting and organizing marathons for commercial brands, schools, and non-profit organizations.

“Takbo.ph has been supporting efforts in reversing the damage being done in the environment. We have supported tree planting activities, coastal clean-ups, and promoting eco-friendly products. In this event, we support WWF-PH in helping raise targeted funds with the WWF National Youth Council for the Tamaraw Society of the PH Parks and Biodiversity, in response to the #TogetherForTamaraws campaign by the UNDP Philippines. In normal circumstances, runners and cyclists love the freedom to run or ride outdoors and be one with nature. The same should be true with our wildlife—they should enjoy running or swimming freely in their habitats too”, a representative from Takbo.ph shared.

Compared to outdoor road races, the At Home for a Home virtual race series will set a target distance which participants can finish and opt to do indoors and at their own pace by either running or biking throughout the race period. Runners who successfully finish the race will receive an exclusive finishers’ kit, which includes a certificate, dri-fit shirt, and medal.

Registration is now on-going for the first leg running this October, which is inspired by the world’s rarest and most endangered buffalo species—the Tamaraw. WWF-PH hopes to celebrate Tamaraw Month this October by raising awareness on the importance of conserving our different endangered species and protecting their natural habitats.

The virtual run and ride series, which aims to support WWF-PH’s community conservation programs, will launch three more legs in the coming months. Stay fit as you help #ChangeTheEnding for the planet!
